Why not? Scratching a bit deeper, my guess is that Alfred Hitchcock could have done a second cameo just for kicks. Just to see if it would get noticed. Just to sneak an extra little bit in there. Kind of like doing a remodel on your kitchen and encasing a newspaper behind the drywall for future, eh, deconstructionists.
With NxNW's gay sub-plot, there's also a thematic relevance here, as is often the case with his cameos. (cf H carrying the double bass in the riddled-with-doubles Strangers on a Train, or [one of my favorites] Hitch wearing a fedora in his cameo on a London street crowded with bowler hats in Foreign Correspondent.)
