The meaning and significance of Hitch's walk-ons is a subject largely ignored by scholarly types, though I've managed to make a few comments myself. For instance, you can read what I think about his cameo in Rope here and his cameo in Foreign Correspondent here (scroll down to paragraph six) and here. Maybe I'll make some more. There's a book in this!
