If you’ve been part of HitchCon, MacGuffin Film Club, our growing LynchCon community, or a follower of my writing and filmmaking, you’re might already know how many threads we've been spinning. Now, they’ve all been woven together into a single tapestry at MacGuffin Media.
This site is the new headquarters for everything we do: our weekly film club, our annual conferences and our broader project of thinking deeply about cinema and its place in our lives. It collects together my essays and videos and is also the easiest way to stay in the, eh, loop about upcoming events and opportunities to participate.
Why “MacGuffin Media”? In Hitchcock’s films, the MacGuffin is the thing everyone chases. For me (and, I presume, you), our “MacGuffin” is meaning itself. As a community, we believe that film can help us get closer to it. Here’s what’s on the site:
MacGuffin Film Club
Each week, we host film screenings and discussions online. We’ve built a true community—one where people from all over the world log in, watch a great film (often Hitchcock, but not always), and talk about what it means, how it works, and why it matters. If you’re craving deeper conversations about film, this is the place. Want to get in on the conversation? Join the club.HitchCon: The International Hitchcock Conference
Every fall, scholars, critics, filmmakers, artists and fans gather online for HitchCon, a three-day conclave into the films of Alfred Hitchcock. If you’ve ever wanted to explore Vertigo as a metaphysical allegory or debate whether The Birds is about the apocalypse or anxiety (or both), you’ll feel right at home. See what you’re in for.
Follow the Signal to LynchCon
We’re also pulling back the red velvet curtains on our newest event: LynchCon, an online conference exploring the weird beauty of the late, great David Lynch. The first edition lands June 6, 2026 (that's 6/6/26). Gear up for talks, panels, lots of audience participation and a few surprises. Pour yourself a cup of strong, black coffee and get with the program, kiddo.
A Vast Archive Awaits
Missed a talk? Want to revisit a panel? The new site includes a massive archive of past lectures and articles. If you’ve been to HitchCon before, your past talks are already waiting for you. You’ll see my own writing and film work as well as that of others whom I’ve published in my various journals. Explore the catacombs: from the homepage, click on “Library.”
This Is Just the Beginning
We’re building a space where film lovers can meet, think, argue and—who knows?—occasionally change their minds. The conversations are happening right now and you’re invited to chime in. Ready to jump in and get lost? Start here: www.macguffin.media
